About Crater Highlands

Few people realise you can walk the land around Ngorongoro. The Crater Highlands are a high, open country of Maasai herders, ancient volcanoes and vast views, with Olmoti and Empakaai craters at their heart.

You can walk from a comfortable lodge each day, or go with Maasai guides and pack donkeys all the way down to the flamingos of Lake Natron.
